healing my inner child.
What is healing?
Healing to me is restoring your physical and mental well-being through letting go of all trauma and/or hurt that is holding you back, identifying triggers, accepting change and accepting the fact you may have hurt others through your actions. Healing is about restoration, new beginnings, soul searching, finding new energy and through it learning how to love yourself one step at a time.
Since as young as I can remember, I have learnt to depend on unhealthy and unstable habits to get me through the days and cope in difficult situations. I was always misunderstood and sometimes still can be, but being misunderstood was because I did not know how to communicate how I felt, partly because I learnt how to wait for these moments to pass, not knowing that I was unknowingly waiting for the whole cycle to start all over again and partly because I did not feel that anyone would care about how I felt. Instead, my form of expressing myself was simply to shut down, not talk about how I feel, and just let it all play out - all of which led to a big cycle of toxicity in many forms.
I needed comfort, time, communication. All I knew how to do was push people away, blame others and take no responsibility of my own actions.
All of my energy was spent on trying to get through the day, week and month by masking my feelings and forming new habits. What I have realized now is that you need TIME to be with yourself, to explore, to meet new people, to learn and see new things. You need to REFLECT and most importantly, you need to have the self belief that you can heal and break the cycle – and if self belief is something you struggle with then first and foremost, hey hi .. I can relate and secondly, don’t underestimate how powerful our minds are. Whatever it is you think and believe paves the way to where you are heading, it guides you to your purpose (anyways, I could really go on about speaking into existence for ages sooo that’s for another blog post).
Healing your inner child is a journey. You have to get deep. You have to ask yourself those difficult questions you have spent years and years trying to avoid. You have to accept change. You have to accept your wrongdoings. You have to break the cycle.
You have to get really raw with yourself and make time to reflect. Healing also includes talking, some may benefit from therapy and some won’t. You have to take the step and find out what is best for you.
Getting into a routine and forming a positive morning routine is useful:
~ drink water
~ stretch
~ meditate
~ journal
~ plan time for y o u
~ create ‘reflective’ times for the things you’ve learnt, healthy habits you’ve adopted and things you are letting go of
~ identify and detach yourself from anyone that is intoxicating your life emotionally, physically, mentally
Sometimes there are times where I look at myself as a child and wish I could tell the innocent girl that yes, you’re going to have a tough time, things are going to get very uncomfortable, you are going to experience and carry emotions that you think are above you, you will blame others, you will push people away, you will think the world is against you, you will want to give up .. in fact, there will be times where you will give up but don’t worry because the strength to keep going will be stronger than the will to give up.
I’m learning through this process that it takes time, to accept the fact that some of my negatively formed habits could be toxic to someone else, to take full responsibility of my actions when I am wrong, while also remembering not to be so hard on myself as I am still learning and to identify when I feel overly emotional in a situation that is not as worse as it seems.
Through learning to heal my inner child I can break free from any bondage that has been holding me hostage. As always, one thing I’d like to remind you is that it is not an easy journey but as long as you think of your end goal, its all worth it. The process is as good as the end result.
Through pain there is purpose.
Are you learning to heal your inner child? If so, what bondages are currently holding you back?
